Saracini-O'Neill Atlantic City 9/11 Memorial

The Saracini-O’Neill Atlantic City 9/11 Memorial is a private 501(c)(3), all volunteer organization dedicated to remembering those individuals who perished on September 11, 2001 and in our subsequent military response to worldwide terrorism.

About Our Memorial

Our memorial event is held every September 11th at the site of the Saracini-O’Neill Atlantic City 9/11 Memorial at Jackson Avenue and the Boardwalk, Atlantic City, NJ. We offer a tribute displaying national pride and love of country. Our patriotism is symbolized by flying a 30’ x 60’ American Flag as our backdrop for the ceremony.

The Atlantic City Fire Department (ACFD) Sandpipers Pipes and Drums provide music, and local entertainers sing traditional patriotic songs. A 40 ton, 9/11 themed sand sculpture by world renowned artist John Gowdy reminds us all what we lost on September 11th and how precious life is. VFW Post 9462 honors our fallen heroes with a three volley rifle salute followed by Last Salute’s three round Civil War Cannon volley, and Last Salute’s memorial flag presentation to the family of a deceased local hero.

In addition to organizing the Saracini-O’Neill Atlantic City 9/11 Memorial Ceremony we provide a year-around service by performing light maintenance to the Memorial, seasonal flowers in the Memorial planters, small American Flags in all flower planters, raising and lowering the American Flag to half staff, and other details.

We also honor eight Atlantic County Armed Forces members who died while serving in our post 9/11 war against global terrorism:

Iorio Bradley, Christopher Castaneda, Sameer Ratev, Eric Rivera, Leonard Russ, Anthony Sausto, Mark Seiden, and Frances Toner Jr.

Our Ceremony mourns and celebrates our deceased heroes through our living uniformed heroes:
Law Enforcement, Firefighters, Armed Forces, and all First Responders.

Help Us Continue the Memorial

Sufficient funds are needed to produce a quality event worthy of our cause. Currently, memorial funding is generated by volunteers and friends. In order for our organization to exist in the long term, we need a sound funding solution.

Our current expenses run between $1800.00 and $2000.00 per year. Funds are required to purchase and install a brass plaque identifying the Memorial as the SARACINI-O’NEILL ATLANTIC CITY 9/11 MEMORIAL (approximate cost, $2,000.00).

The ACFD Sandpipers Pipes and Drums and Last Salute are both volunteer organizations and incur expenses when participating in our ceremony. We would like to reimburse both organizations for their expenses. This is also true of sculpture artist John Gowdy’s expenses. We have a long term goal of adding to the current Saracini-O’Neill Atlantic City Memorial wall by listing the nearly 700 New Jerseyans who died on September 11, 2001 (cost to be determined).
